{}AXIOMLESSCarry no assumptions forward

Every institution does well at what it was built for. Most problems, though, stretch across them.

That's where we work.

02 — Hypothesis

The mandate defines what gets built. Work that falls between mandates is rarely designed. More often it is improvised.

The work that crosses institutional boundaries is where the most is at stake. It is also where the least infrastructure exists.

These are not engineering failures. They are boundary failures. Software built inside a single mandate cannot solve them.

03 — Evidence

Evidence, not claims.

We take on a small number of well-defined problems each year. This is one of them. Anyone who has navigated the international careers landscape already knows it.

04 — Method

Four steps.

Observe

Two weeks of observing people who use the system, not only the people who commission it.

Translate

The institution's vocabulary, rewritten in language the user recognises. This is the step almost everyone skips. It is the one that decides whether the rest works.

Artistry

Not engineering alone. Craft. A person with a piano does not make a musician. We work craftful, deliberate, and always grounded to the people using what we build.

// Most software stops at the boundary of one mandate.
// We design across.

Hand over

Documented, trainable, owned by your team. Open-sourced where it should be. Then we leave.

05 — About

Built for organisations that measure impact, not margin.

Axiomless is a design and strategy practice that works exclusively with mission-driven organisations. We design and build digital systems for the spaces where institutional mandates meet the people they are supposed to serve.

We do not pitch. We do not work on retainer. We take on a small number of well-defined problems each year and work until they are solved.

Axiomless means free of inherited constraints. An axiom is a rule accepted without proof. We don't start there. The {} is a null set, not just a logo. It marks the place you begin from when nothing is assumed.

Write us a brief.

We don't do proposals. Describe the problem in two or three sentences. As you experience it, not as a project spec. We will tell you honestly whether it is something we can help with.
